Election Violence Education and Resolution Project

Election violence strikes at the foundation of democratic institutions. Such violence or threat of violence can remove a candidate from contention, keep voters from polls, destroy political party offices, or otherwise impede the free will of participants in the process.

Election Violence Education and Resolution (EVER) Project

Free, fair, and nonviolent elections are the foundation of democratic societies. The Electoral Violence Education and Resolution (EVER) Project examines electoral violence as a discrete form of conflict with unique causes and solutions while recognizing that it is linked to broader social, economic, or criminal motives. By understanding the causes of this violence, more effective steps can be taken to prevent, manage, or reduce opportunities for friction in election processes.

The EVER Project online portal provides the user with details of the methodology utilized to implement election-violence monitoring, as well as data from specific IFES EVER activities and resources such as news stories, articles and analysis addressing election-related violence. It also encourages national and international organizations to standardize their approach to monitoring election violence. It provides information and resources that will enable policy makers in the fields of democracy, conflict, governance, and elections to identify and employ proven strategies to prevent and mitigate election violence.
